The Locating project has enabled me to explore new challenges. The live brief asked of me that I design for two parts of their family. I have understood this as two collections for different markets. for this is decided to design for womenswear - a perhaps obvious and safe choice, but also I ventured into new ground as I decided to also design for girls wear prints. I have not yet designed for different age ranges or even children's designs in my studies so this is new ground for me.
My theme for my self initiated project was weather which is something you cant always 'draw' literally, so I needed to learn how to extract properties and words from my sources and use them to draw with. For me, this is quite new as i have always been used to drawing motifs and working with them, however i am enjoying a more abstract style of drawing and this gives me more scope for textures and richer designs using photoshop.
In my future career I mainly want to focus on digital design for fashion and the fact that this project has enabled me to design for other ages groups (and genders if I wanted to) has help broaden my knowledge of current and future trends in other areas other then just womenswear. it also has helped me broaden my creativity and how i can apply my drawings to other markets. I have also learnt to think outside of the box whilst drawing, thus freeing me to create more interesting drawings and paintings to work from.
This project has also enabled me to work on many projects at once - this being something that may happen to me in my future career. time management is important and this project and course itself helps you learn how to use your time effectively. I may have personal issues with anxiety in using the studios, however I fully understand the need for good time management to achieve good outcomes and results. This time management quality will be needed in the career realm as fashion is so fast in this time we live in.
